Smelt Fishing Competition for the Palanga City Mayor's Cup – RULES
Organizer: Public Institution “Palangos Stinta”
Goal: To promote the fishing festival “Palangos STINTA” and the Palanga resort.
Location: Palanga Sea Bridge
Date and Time: February 8, 2025, from 8:00 AM registration until 12:30 PM awards ceremony.
The organizers reserve the right to cancel the competition due to extreme weather conditions if it is not possible to hold the event.
Participants: The competition is team-based (each team consists of 2 individuals). There is no age limit for participants. It is preferable that teams have a distinguishing sign and a team name.
Rules: The competition duration is 3 hours (the final schedule will be confirmed once the number of participants and weather conditions are known). Participants may use one fishing rod with a rig of up to 6 hooks (the number of spare rods is not limited). Judges may disqualify participants for having non-competition fish, consuming alcoholic beverages during the event, being late to return to the finish line, or receiving help from outside individuals.
Results Calculation: Winners are determined by the weight of the fish caught – one gram equals 1 point. Smelt are weighed separately, and 1 gram of smelt equals 10 points. In case of a tie in weight, the participant who caught more smelt is ranked higher. If there is still a tie, the team with the younger combined age of its participants wins. Catches are weighed during the competition.
Prizes: The winners will be awarded prizes provided by the Palanga City Municipality and sponsors.
Schedule:
Registration: 8:00 AM – 8:45 AM at Jūratės and Kastyčio Square, near the Sea Bridge.
Start: 9:00 AM at the Palanga Sea Bridge.
End: 12:00 PM – Results compilation.
Awards ceremony: 12:30 PM at the Jūratės and Kastyčio Square stage.
